A POTTED HISTORY OF DAVENPORT SNOOKER CLUB
The Club was founded in 1904 by a group of Stockport businessmen who wanted to emulate the snooker clubs of Manchester.
As was the custom in those days, the Club was formed as a limited company , with each member being required to purchase a £5 share.
The Club continued on that basis for over 90 years but when membership declined in the 1990s, the members decided to sell the Club`s freehold building (a former Junior School in Davenport) and some wished to pocket the proceeds. However, a majority (including our current Chairman) voted to continue the Club and when the new clubhouse was built at Queensgate, Bramhall, the Snooker Club paid for the extension which is now it`s current home. By way of homage to its origins, the room is decorated in the same colour with photographs of the founding Committee Members to accompany the original snooker table and scoreboard.
